We're a fully accredited residency program with a substantial referral area. Patients range from inner-city underserved populations to the suburban middle/upper class. Our residents care for these patients under the direction of a dedicated, accessible, and personable faculty. There's a lot to learn from fascinating patients in a welcoming, yet challenging environment. This is evident by our 99% ABIM board pass rate over the last 10 years.
Our residents come from a wide range of backgrounds and they establish tight relationships with each other and our faculty and staff, as they become part of our family here in Syracuse. Whatever your goals are, we will help you achieve them. We invite you to learn more about our training, our facilities, our city, and more importantly, the lives of the people who make this program an outstanding place for resident training.
Our residency program accepts applications through the AAMC’s Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and we also participate in the National Residency Matching Program. ERAS collects the required materials and then transmits these documents from your medical school to our residency program. Our application deadline is Dec. 31; however, we strongly encourage applicants to submit their applications by the end of October since our interview schedule fills quickly. While Deans’ letters are not released until Nov.
1, we begin reviewing applications that are otherwise complete in late September and will begin notifying applicants of interviews as applications are reviewed. Please provide the following documents to ERAS:. Completed application. Personal statement. Curriculum vitae. Official transcript from your medical school. Dean’s letter.
Three letters of recommendation (at least one from a specialist in internal medicine). USMLE Board score results We do not require any materials beyond those to be submitted to ERAS and we ask that you do not send any additional material unless we request them from you directly. USMLE & COMLEX Scores We expect that applicants will have passed USMLE or COMLEX Step I before applying. Step II and Step II-CS passage is required to enter the program, and therefore passing these exams before applying is strongly suggested.
Candidates from Osteopathic Medical Schools should submit COMLEX scores, and may submit USMLE scores in addition but this is not required. Clinical Experience We encourage graduates of international medical schools (IMG) to submit letters of recommendation from mentors within the U.S. Who have observed their clinical work whenever possible, especially in the field of internal medicine. Please note: ECFMG certificates, when appropriate, must be current prior to the Match. Nondiscrimination Policy It is our policy to adhere to the guidelines published by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) regarding selection of our applicants.
We select eligible applicants based on preparedness, ability, previous record, aptitude, academic credentials, accomplishments, communication skills, motivation, and integrity. We do not discriminate with regard to sex, race, age, religion, color, national origin, disability, or any other applicable legally protected status. FAQs What is the timeline for your interview process? We conduct interviews during the months of November through January, with appropriate breaks for the holidays.
We begin to review applications starting October 1 when MSPE (Dean’s Letters) are formally released, and invitations are sent throughout October and November. Our interview slots for the year generally fill by December 1. For your planning, it is very unlikely that you will receive an interview offer after December 1st if you have not already been offered a slot or a place on the waiting list. To respect your time and interests, we do strive to e-mail all candidates regarding their status by December 1st. This communication will come through the ERAS System. Which visa types does your program accept?
We accommodate J1 visas. Do you accept applications from Foreign and/or International Graduates (FMG/IMG)? We are proud of our diverse applicant pool and give full consideration to FMG/IMG candidates in our process. FMG/IMG Candidates who have successfully matched to our program in recent years have generally graduated from medical school within the past three years, have USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK scores at least in the 230’s, successfully passed Step 2 CS on the first attempt, and have at least 3 months of clinical activity in the United States (ideally “hands on” clinical rotations).
These are general guidelines meant to help inform our applicants. We are willing to give consideration to candidates who don’t meet all these criteria, case by case, on the basis of other outstanding attributes or accomplishments in the field. Do you offer any pre-Match positions?
No, we fill all positions through the Match. Does your institution/program offer observerships or externships?
